XMAS 2008

So another year is over and what have you done? The wild, magic, lovely and insane year I’ve had in the city I love more than any man has put me through the crucible again, and I’m come through diamond bright and petal soft.
I’ve built and lost a studio. I’ve interviewed some of the most interesting creatives and minds in the city. I’ve loved a project and person that really was a reflection of me, my magic and muster and fight. I’ve seen mirrors everywhere, seen beautiful light in many places and didn’t realize how much of that light was me, emanating and pulsating with promise and hope. I’ve screamed at the top of my creative voice, into the echo chamber of New York City and had that echo knock me back, in awe and wonder.
I’ve found family again, that GETS me, art, life, the journey, why we are here. I’ve found the thread of Irish madness and majesty in many of my friends. As one said, you may know Karate, but I know Karazy. I’ve fallen into bed with shades of men, boyos, nothing more than ephemeral contact, where no love could thrive. I’ve found love in other places, in other ways, that led me through.
So check out this video – I chose the song as a nod to my friend Arturo Vega, who took me to dinner and reminded me that talent can’t be stolen or held captive. Its wonderful to have friends who believe in you, when you think its all falling apart. I hear the whispers of where my heart should be, and I’m gonna follow it. As Wen put it, we are all here to be angels in some way to each other, not get a leg up.
All speed ahead in 2009 with love,
Melissa
