A friend sent me a link to a page on the Walmart website; a product page for the movie “Planet of the Apes”. Why he sent it to me had to do with the “Similar Items” to the right of the product. The “Similar Items” include “Introducing Dorothy Dandridge” and “Martin Luther King: I Have A Dream/MLK Assassination”.

I could not believe such a blatant example of corporate, market driven racism. What was Walmart actually saying, revealing, by this disturbing page? But then it gets worse as I scroll down…

Yes, the “Similar Items” have expanded to include “Unforgivable Blackness: The Rise & Fall of Jack Johnson” and “What’s Love Got To Do With It”. Who wrote the code that puts “Planet of the Apes” next to Martin Luther King’s greatest speech and assassination, next to the struggles of Dorothy Dandrige and Jack Johnson, next to the bio-epic of Tina Turner’s career and life?

Walmart, what have you done?
