Mental Laundry

At 6 AM a gathering begins
Divorced men at washing machines
Dumping quarters into slots
Clean underwear was a mystery
Our of thin air
Ex-wives conjured clean shirts, sock, suits
Emergency laundry, emergency cleaning
a panic for clean clothing
creates a panic for understanding
in life
What went wrong
What was right
Why didn’t I realize
laundry was to hot and difficult
and appreciate it more
coming folded from
Ex-wives’ hands
Watching socks spin in a dryer
like confusion in their minds.

Meaning lucky
(swatting hands from waist, ass)
meaning blessed
(cringe when you put my hand on your crotch)
meaning delighted
(I cannot move away from you,
tongue-in-my-ear-leering-groping-drunken
mess of you)
meaning amulet
(your pocket of keys grind into my hip)
meaning impressed
(your drink sloshes in your unsteady hands
down my pants)
meaning polite greeting
(you shove, I shove back
and pull myself into the streaming crowd
its current moving away rapidly).
